Deciding you wish to become a Power Wiccan

You first should decide of you wish to become a Wiccan, if so, is this the path best suited to you.

There are very many types of Wicca, and within the library section we have tried to define as many as we can. It may be difficult to find out about some, and some may be 'economically' connected, by this I mean someone connected with it has course to sell or a book you have to buy, before you can get the lowdown on what it is about. Buy that and you get to the next stage on occasions when you need to spend more and so on .........................

You may also come across rivalry between some orders, and a few who claim to have the original or the only route to Wicca. One claim you may come across is that only a direct path from the people who created Wica in the 1950's can conduct a pathway ritual to allow you into Wicca. You can disregard this immediately as they only got their 'witch abilities' by being taught by one or two traditional orders. Therefore as an order with close contacts to traditional orders we have, direct 'witch abilities' should such a thing exist.

You may also wish to consider if you wish to join in the commercial side of the craft. As a Power Wiccan there will be very little scope for this as we give all the information, the public can have away, and the rest is secret. You can of course write magazine or newspaper articles or put on classes if you wish, but we ask our members not to profiteer from the craft.

On the negative side we do not have very much to do with other Wicca orders, mostly because we have no commercial interests. On the positive side we are one of the few Wiccan orders that have a lot to do with the traditional orders. 

Wiccan orders generals are more into ritualistic magic or high magic as it is called, while traditional orders are far more into craft skills and forms of magic with a scientific basis, often referred to as low magic.

Some Wiccan say that Wicca is primarily within you, within your mind, a state of mind really, a faith based belief like other religions that cannot be proven , while traditional's get all technical and set about proving one aspect after another. They view magic as science that can't yet be documented. We as Power Wiccans fall between the two, we like to know that some of our magic is real, and can know that it works and why, but we also like to involve the spirit at faith level more than some traditional's.

Having decided

The next consideration is if you are to:-

If you have been invited into a coven or to join with someone else to set up a new one, then the decision may have been made, if not, then the following may help.

For most people, if possible the best course is to set up a new circle or coven. You start off with the scope to make it fit your needs, and can grow it into exactly the group you like. There is far more enjoyment and motivation when you are a part of a group, while on your own, you may just never get around to doing anything. We can help you to set up a new coven or circle.

If you are going to join a coven the most difficult part is in finding one. Most operate completely secretly. For this reason becoming a solitary may be desirable until you get the chance to meet others. We as a web site do not add people into existing covens, invitations come from the covens themselves.

As a solitary you basically teach yourself, with  some help from us. We are a part of the large projects that will provide two witchcraft schools, one for teens and a deeper one for adults, the links section tells you how to find these. Both of these will provide completely free on line training.

Covens and circles

A group of licentiate or student members, who do not have at least one priest or priestess ( sorcerer), we call a ring. You can operate as ring, and become a coven as soon as at least one of you have taken the oath. See the new covens page for more information.

Becoming a solitary

Our solitaries are not completely on their own and like members of a coven come in three grades.

To become a student member you can take an oath to the spirit on your own, it is in the form of a combination promise and prayer, and does not require you to buy anything special. All the items you will need are found in your own home. If you are a part of a coven then a priestess or high priestess can put an alternative ritual together to do this with you. It is however your promise, and prayer still, so there is no real advantage in this other than in the enjoyment of doing it with someone else.

Two or more of you becoming student members together as when forming a ring can do this together if you wish.

Moving from a student to a priestess, we call then sorcerers, but other Wiccans normally call them witches, you can use whichever title you choose. Involves another ritual and promise and at this point it has to be done by an existing high priest or priestess. In many cases with solitaries this means we have to introduce you to one.

Similarly moving from a priestess to a high priestess, or male equivalents also requires a high priest or priestess to work with you and the spirit.

As a solitary student member you have the responsibility to learn, think and move yourself to the point where you are happy to become a priestess, there is no time limit on this.

If you have decided it is for you, then we ask you to email us and let us know who you are, name, address. date of birth, age now, and if you have any relevant experience you can also let us know that as well. We will then tell you where you can see the details (on a web site) of the ritual you will need to perform. This has full details, including the prayer/promise. Once you have completed this, you let us know and we enter you on the central role of Power Wiccans. All the information we have is of course completely confidential, and secret. Once on the role we will also allocate a councilor to you, who you may email any questions you have and will help you to learn and move forward. Normally this will be a high priest or priestess. We are also looking to make a support web site available to solitaries and covens, but this is still being designed at present. (See news to see if it has need announced).

At some point you also have to decide what house you wish to be in and let us know. Its often not a good idea to decide straight away, but to take a little time to see which suits you best. (page explaining houses comes off introduction)

Virtual Wicca are a part of Power Wicca, but is a virtual coven that Wiccan from around the world can belong to, and share their knowledge and skills. Its fundamental beliefs are that of Power Wicca, but as it is in many ways a collection of solitaries, each witch will have their own individual beliefs.

Virtual Wicca encourages its members to form their own rings or covens, either as a part of Power Wicca or as a path of their own. It provides one of the most convenient and friendly routes for those with a calling to Wicca to get the help they require to get involved.
